BAP Bursaries 2025

Applications for bursaries for the BAP 2025 Conference are live!

The deadline for bursary applications is: Friday 15th August 2025

To see if you might be eligible, and for information on how to apply, see below.

Please share this information far and wide, both with people you think would benefit and your professional networks. There may be interest from people you wouldn’t have expected!

Why do we offer bursaries?

BAP aims to be an inclusive and accessible community for all. The annual conference is an opportunity for delegates to make connections, share information, and accelerate both their personal and professional development. But, most importantly, it is a chance to really “nerd out” and get stuck into anything and everything to do with planetariums with people who share that enthusiasm.

The council believes that money should not be a barrier to engaging with the invaluable experiences that the BAP annual conference has to offer. With rising cost of living, we recognise that the number of people struggling in this regard has risen substantially. BAP is a community that strives to support all members of our industry, and recognises that participation and contributions from anyone working with planetariums and domes is a benefit to us all.

Who are bursaries for?

Bursaries are for anyone who would struggle or be unable to attend the annual BAP conference due to financial circumstances. We understand that financial struggles are not limited to those who are young and/or at the beginning of their careers.

We are keen to receive bursary applications from existing members who have been unable to attend for the last few years due to costs, as well as those who are at the start of their planetarium journey. This includes those at the beginning of their career in the planetarium industry and those who work in adjacent disciplines who are interested in engaging with planetaria.

What costs will a bursary cover?

Bursaries can support with the costs of any and/or all of the following:

  • BAP 2025 Conference ticket

  • accommodation

  • travel costs

Conference tickets cover lunch on Friday and Saturday, Friday conference meal and Saturday BAP breakfast baps.

BAP is mindful of the fact that if someone is applying for a bursary, it is possible that they may not have access to the funds to be able to front the costs of attending and then be reimbursed. As such, if someone qualifies for accommodation, BAP will organise the provision of a basic hotel room. Where suitable, BAP will also endeavour to purchase tickets for transport on behalf of bursary recipients.

The council may also offer successful bursary applicants the opportunity to attend the optional Saturday evening meal, as we understand that not being able to accompany your peers socially can be disheartening. However, decisions regarding this, along with all other bursary designations, will be down to the discretion of the council.

How to apply

The council requires applicants to fill out a short questionnaire, which can be found by clicking here.

The deadline for bursary applications is: Friday 15th August 2025

How will decisions about bursaries be made and be communicated?

There is a limited amount of funds that have been allocated for granting bursaries. All bursary applications received will be reviewed by the council after the deadline of Friday 15th August 2025. After this date the application process will close. All decisions regarding the success of applications will be made by the council at their discretion.

The council is aiming to inform all applicants of the decision regarding their bursary application by Monday 1st September 2025, and this is when successful applicants will also receive further information about their grant.
